Popular bar rail pick for many Canadian bars, Bacardi just announced that they are expanding sustainable business with exciting new targets as part of their Good Spirited global sustainability program.

While Bacardi is most known for their brand of rum — they’re about to grow a green following for their sustainability efforts.

Raising the bar on sustainability, Bacardi Limited has committed their company to responsible sourcing, streamlined packaging and efficient operations as part of their Good Spirited program.

Stepping up their sustainability game

Bacardi, the world’s largest privately held spirits company, will be sustainably sourcing raw materials and packaging as part of their efforts for building a sustainable future initiative. The sourcing in question will be recycled or renewable materials.

“Its target is to source 40% of the sugarcane-derived products from certified, sustainable sources to produce BACARDI rum by 2017 and an expected 100% by 2022,” reports Drinks Business Review.

The Good Spirited program will also be targeting water and energy efficiency and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions — in addition to the sustainable sourcing.

“There is also a 2017 goal to cut water use by 55 percent and GHG emissions by 50 percent,” reports 3BL Media, “In addition, Bacardi aims to eliminate landfill waste at all of its production sites by 2022.”

According to a Good Spirited PDF fact sheet, Bacardi has cut 25% of their energy use and 54% of water consumption since 2006.

“Protecting the natural resources we use to create our brands, at every step along the value chain, is central to our corporate responsibility,” says Ed Shirley, president and CEO of Bacardi Limited, on their website, “We’ve always set the bar high. Now, we’re taking our solid, sustainable foundation to the next level.”

More than just rum, there are other spirits apart of the Good Spirited program

From Grey Goose vodka to Bombay Sapphire gin, Bacardi offers a variety of booze to stock your sustainable bar with — for everything from bar rails to premiums. Apart of the Bacardi family is Dewars blended scotch whiskey, Cazadores tequila, Martini sparkling wine and more.

With over 200 brands and labels, it’s exciting to see the sustainability efforts for the company.

We’ll drink to that.

For businesses, we have incentives.
