This is a really interesting idea: the Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA) in the UK has teamed up with W Denis insurance brokers to offer discounted insurance to restaurants who are SRA members—and the greener the restaurant, the bigger the savings.

The program is designed to help all member restaurants, from the smallest start-ups to the largest chains, save on their insurance. SRA members have reported savings from £250 to £1,000.

While restaurants often have to wait years to realize financial savings from energy efficiency initiatives, this is a way to provide a direct financial incentive to restaurants who are considering becoming more environmentally responsible. Something the burgeoning green restaurant industry might want to consider, perhaps?
